Help Create an Equal World Where Women and Children Live Free from Violence

Become a Friend of the GNWS

1 in 3 women experiences violence at least once in her life.

Yet fewer than 40% of survivors seek help of any sort.

The Global Network of Women’s Shelters (GNWS) works to change that. As a volunteer-run network, GNWS connects women’s shelters and hotlines across the globe to strengthen both local and international responses to gender-based violence.

Currently we have over (#) individuals and organisations from a diverse range of backgrounds in our Friends & Supporters network. Our latest initiative, Lila.help, is a global directory of verified support services for women. Since its launch in 2022, Lila.help has built a trusted database of 382 organizations in 124 countries, providing accurate, up-to-date information on hotlines and service centers. In its first year alone, the site reached over 502,000 users worldwide—a testament to the urgent need for accessible support.

Testimonial:

Mirko Fernandes (Global Fund)

“I got in touch with a SV victim/survivor looking for support. He was a refugee from Northern Africa, Arabic speaker and LGBTQI community member. He was looking for help in an Eastern European country, former Soviet block. This was not easy to find, until UN Women directed me to Lila.help. Through Lila.help, I was able to find an organization that has the four A’s that I always look for: Appropriate, Accessible, Available and Adaptable. The service provider was able to respond immediately and demonstrated experience supporting victim/survivors from the LGBTQI community and to refugees. The victim/survivor was able to receive cost-free counseling sessions with Arabic interpretation, which help him deal with his trauma due to discrimination based on his sexual orientation. Lila.help was instrumental in finding an in-country service provider able to provide support.”
